Rope Making Fun

For Christmas Firm-Hand-Buddha made me a rope machine!  I ordered a tonne of yarn and have been chomping at the bit to get at making some jute.  I am a rope addict (as if calling myself aropedeevil didn't already give that away), and it was very hard to wait!  Finally, we had good weather (I actually got a sunburn) and I was able to try the machine out.

The first few attempts were TERRIBLE, resulting in kinky rope that felt rather bizarre, but after a few more tweaks things ran a great deal smoother!

As you can see, It was smooth enough that I was able to spend a weekend and spin a reasonable amount.  Note that the dark red, and the dark purple rope are treated.  The rest are still fuzzy and untouched.

I am thrilled with this rope, but I admit, not everyone will like it.  It is single ply, which means even at 6mm, with 3 strands of 12 yarns, the rope lacks that hardness that many associate with rope.  This stuff is soft, alive and not for the faint hearted.  Single ply jute requires more love, more care, if one wants it to last.  But it is also incredibly responsive and sexy to have on your skin.  I may be a bit in love!

When I took a moment to quickly condition the rope, the colour darkened to reveal the rich undertones that make jute so damned special.
As soon as my bunny is feeling better I will be doing some body work to break mine in (purple is for MY BUNNY...)

For your amusement, here is the video I shot.  No go pro, so it is what it is.
Happy Rigging!

Rope Fun

My dear pet brought me a photo.  It was a lovely picture of a lady who was tied up in a very seductive and vulnerable pose, with her legs secured along a pole with a ladder tie.  The model in the photo is very flexible and was able to do the splits.

Tie me?

She asked, her voice quiet and her eyes all soft the way she gets when she is thinking of rope.

Like this?

She held the photo up and I studied it for a moment. Hmm...

Pet, do you think you can do this position? (grin) I am game to tie you in it regardless, but...

We modified the tie of course, and she is twice as lovely than the model, her soft whimper moans as the rope pulls her into the shape I choose; her delightful sassy nature as she grabs her foot and pulls more, encouraging me, challenging me, daring me; Her lips part with that rope drunk feeling as the I gather the unused ends of the rope and spill them onto her, letting them slither over her skin.

She is such a gem, this amazing lady who puts herself in my hands, giving me all her joy, all her glee, all her dreamy sighs, sounds, motions...

Thank you pet.

JBO Jute Rope: WARNING Allergies and Toxicities

ute Rope: WARNING Allergies & Toxicities

I came across a post on Fetlife in which the poster was wondering if anyone has discovered they are allergic to Jute. Naturally I was alarmed, as Jute is a natural fiber that is preferred by many riggers for shibari and suspension, yours truly included.
I use jute and hemp, depending on who I am rigging, what type of tie I am doing and my mood. My jute comes from M0co and I am very happy with it.
In the comments of the posting there was a link to this article, regarding JUTE and alelrgies:
http://bonesandrope.com/2014/08/15/are-you-allergic…
written by MissBones
Read it, it is well worth the read. Basically jute is treated with an oil that is "which is an aqueous emulsion derived from crude oil for spraying over jute fibers in order to soften them for the manufacture of jute textiles" and this oil is toxic. The article links several studies that looked into the impact of this oil on health. Not cool.
Thankfully, my rope is made by m0co and he spins his rope himself, which means they are jto free.
So... If you get around jute and start experiencing allergy like symptoms or skin reactions, you may be using jute that has been treated with jto.
happy rigging

Shibari? Kinbaku? Rope Bondage? Which is it?

Shibari? Kinbaku? Rope Bondage? Which is it?

Disclaimer

I am not an expert in Japan, Rope, or any such. I am just a lady who loves the feel of rope in her hands, and when given free reign is passionate about applying rope to a bondage scene with a partner she connects with.
I love rope. Part of what fascinates me is the many, MANY different ways to use rope as bondage, from purely "cowboy", to "people macrame" to a Japanese orientated style. Those different styles and methods come with their own well debated and much debated explanations and definitions. My definitions are NOT the one TWUE way to define these, but reflect my own perspective.

My take on the various styles:

Rope Bondage: Using rope to restrain someone.
Functional Bondage: This works for the purpose it was intended, is not typically designed to look pretty.
Japanese Bondage A bondage style that originated in Japan and has been adapted by riggers in other countries into what many now label as Shibari.
Shibari: A style of rope bondage that looks pretty, is functional and originates from Japanese style rope bondage.
Kinbaku: Shibari with an emotional connection between the parties, creating an energy within the rope bondage scene.
Ichinawa: Kinbaku done with one rope, with the focus being on using the rope to connect, rather than on completing a specific tie.
People Macrame: Rope ties that use decorative knots and twists to create attractive harnesses, rope clothing, rope accessories that can be worn as decoration.
Cowboy Bondage: functional rope ties used for restraint that are not designed to be attractive and are fast and quick.
Predicament Bondage Ties in which the function is to create a predicament.
Suspension Bondage This is any tie in which a person is partially or fully suspended with rope. This can be done in various styles.
This is not an inclusive list. There are many more styles out there, many more labels. Please do feel free to add yours in the comments.

Thursday Jan 8 2015

It's been a great year so far!! I have a couple new videos up on youtube, and Aropedeevil's corner is busy with so many rope enthusiasts that I am beyond thrilled.

I spend a huge chunk of time today practicing rope.  It has been too long since I just tied from a book, learning to break down someone else's work and see it come to life on a real person.  I have been doing so much teaching and so many sessions where the bottom expects intensity that practice has been missing.

Thanks to a lovely volunteer I was able to really sink into my rope studies..
I practiced some chest harnesses from my book of five ropes, and then did some improv ties, just because.

I love adding fingers into the tie.  This was rather sloppily done, but fun regardless.

This was done to demonstrate the variation to allow for a bottom who cannot pull their shoulders back.  We had already tied this tie with the hands clasped at upper forearm.
This is still one of my favorites.  I am very impressed by CB's flexibility!

I love adding that upper row to this chest tie.  It changes it from crisp strait lines to that sexy y wrap.  Love it.

It also provides a beautiful frame for these lovely breasts.

And some sleeves, as arm ladders are just sexy.
Man I love rope!!!

For Rope class today we did our drills, talked about negotiating, then did some trust exercises.  We tied slower, and more connected to our bottom.  We practiced dragging them all over, did a variation of the chest tie (adding in hands) and then did the pocket sling.

You guys rock.

Sooo... you wanna be a rigger?

So, you want to be a rigger

I love rope.
I love touching it, smelling it, rubbing it between my fingers. I love feeling it on my skin and I love wrapping it around yours. I have made my own jute, I dye my own rope, I do self bondage and I tie up all kinds of people for all kinds of reasons (but always consensually).
I have taught quite a few people how to use rope, and it can be very frustrating when you are new. We do not learn rope skills by memorization, watching, talking or reading. We learn by body memory.
There is no lecture that will teach you how to feel the ropes tension and know what to adjust.
There is no demonstration that will teach you how to make your bottom feel connected to you as you wind rope on them.
No video, powerpoint, book, diagram or workshop that will create a rigger.
The only thing that will absolutely build your skill is practice. Rope bondage is a body memory skill. Your body needs to do it over and over and over and over and over (etc) to develop the skills to rig with confidence and ease.
We need the lectures in order to learn about the safety and care required to rig safely. We need the demonstrations to learn the structure of different ties, harnesses and 'knots'. We need the videos to be able to check our work as we practice. We need those diagrams and workshops as our building blocks to learning.
After that it is practice.
Over and over.
Learned to do a two column tie?
Do it on everything. tie your ankles, tie a chair to a stick. Tie your hand to your thigh, tie , tie tie. Over and over. Then get a volunteer. Tie two column ties all over the place. Finger to a toe, ankle to a forearm, ankle to ankle, over and over and over. Tie their ankle to your wrist. Think you have it? do it again tomorrow, next week, next month. Over and over. When you can grab rope, close your eyes and tie it on any two columns, you are getting close.
Learned a chest harness? Tie it on your bunny. Tie it on yourself. Tie in on a chair. Get volunteers. Tie it on all shapes of people. think you have it down? tie it again.
Forgot a tie? Google it, relearn it. Tie it over and over and over and over.

When the rope seduces me...

As we sit there talking I can feel myself becoming more and more focused on that length of rope I have been absentmindedly let slide through my fingers. Each fiber of the rope feels as if it is more pronounced than it as a moment ago, there is a sensation of warming where the rope caresses my skin, sliding, rough and smooth, gently abrasive, leaving my hand tingling.
I turn to face FHB, as he is talking, and I have this moment of disorientation, as I am looking at his sexy frame as a rigger, imagining what I could do with this rope, did he let me-and that image is for a moment superimposed my vision of him... I smile wryly, amused, because while he often lets me practice on him he is NOT a bottom, nor does he get any glee from rope, in his hands or on his person.
BL says something, and what little focus I have left shifts to him, the rope still sliding, fibers catching on my skin, yet sliding ever so soft and wicked... hmm?? What did he say??
I put the rope down beside me and concentrate a little... follow the conversation, participate.. And I am doing good... Right?? But when bk says something and I make eye contact I am suddenly very aware that I have picked the rope back up and continued my tactile junky fix-and suddenly I very clearly see what this rope should be doing.
This very pretty pink hemp rope that is stroking my hand, sliding across my forearm and pooling sinfully at my feet should be winding itself over her skin instead... wrapping around her waist, cinching just on this side of good... Then down and through her legs, creating a cradle to lift her buttocks just so... tightening just a bit here, more there... And one wrist fastened here, elbow there....
And maybe.. yes that purple rope... it just wants to slide up her abdomen, wrap itself over her rib cage, asymmetrically binding one breast, this knot right there... this one just off kilter... now cinch it tight... I can hear that amazing soft squeak she makes when you startle her in a good way... Yes, this rope can now bring that foot up... just so.. bind bind... and the leg.. bind bind... more rope....back to pink, this arm now... it needs to be like this... secure it.. double column tie... and that foot like this... with purple... secure it, double column tie...
I can see it, the whole time they are talking.. I can feel my heart beat slow down, the feel of the rope sliding through my fingers, the tension, the warmth of her skin... I can hear her sounds, the rasp of the rope...
I can see it... the finished picture, arm and leg fully suspended, body partially, the position looking so impossibly uncomfortable but made peaceful by the rigging... Her form swaying slightly on the ropes, that glazed look a rope bunny gets that makes me feel... so... damn. just so damned good.
I stand up abruptly, obviously not in time with conversation, judging by the startled looks everyone gives me... I shrug.. Socially awkward?? Me?? yup...
I put aside that vision a wee bit, and show BL and FHB the tie we are here for... I demonstrate on bk, trying not to yank the rope too tight just to hear that sound, ignoring the seductive song the rope is singing I do what I am supposed to do, grinning to myself, even as I am picturing what else this rope can do.
And so we learn the tie we came to learn. We practice the tie we came to learn. BL ties on bk, FHB ties it on me, the tightening of the rope on my own skin just adds to the song in my head. The whole time I am just dancing inside to a different song-being seduced by the rope.

Rope Group of my own!

Tonight I hosted a gathering for rope shenanigans, and oh my what fun!
I got to top, which is always highly entertaining, and tie people up... (ooooh!!) AND I was able to show off my own rope!
Fun fun!!

This is me, learning to splice rope:
